The MALAYSIA MOST VIRAL X page (previously Twitter) recently shared images of a couple with 2 dogs at a Mamak restaurant in Johor Bahru. While they intended to condemn the Mamak restaurant for allowing the couple to eat with their 2 dogs at one of their tables, they ended up getting condemned instead as their post was riddled with racist remarks.
MALAYSIA MOST VIRAL wrote, “Are mamak restaurants actually shops run by Muslims or Indian k****g? How is it that they’re sprouting up everywhere like mushrooms, the workers can’t even speak Malay, sometimes they just simply set up their stalls like at the area in front of the MCA building.”
They attempted to defend themselves
Due to the backlash they received for using the ‘K’ word, MALAYSIA MOST VIRAL attempted to defend themselves by saying that it was meant to describe Indians from India, not Malaysia.
“Do we need to mention Indian k****g from New Delhi? Some are making noise because they think (we meant) Malaysian Indians. Shops run by Malaysian Indians are clean and their workers are locals who can speak Malay,” they added.
However, followers were still not having it and condemned the page, explaining that, as Malaysians, we should all learn to speak with manners.
“If you want to make a complaint, got to the local authorities or whichever government agency (that’s the most appropriate), but don’t write things as you please. If you want to share something, use your brain and write nicely, don’t just write whatever you want.”
“It’s completely fine if you want to confront them, but your sentence is dangerous. Do you feel proud to be able to say things like that?”
“There’s no need to bring race into this. Just speak out about the cleanliness and health aspect of it. You just like relating things to 3R (race, religion and royalty)?”
“It’s simple. It’s our culture to have manners when we speak. Thank you.”
While it is understandable to be infuriated by the presence of dogs at a mamak eatery and to call out the restaurant for allowing the customers to bring their dogs with them but, why bring race into the discussion, especially in such a rude manner?
