Sugary foods and beverages are nice to consume when taken moderately but not excessively. The health risks that await when we’re on a sugar spike are just ugly.
A young woman in China is suffering the consequences after chugging carbonated drinks every day for 1 long year and in return, she has damaged her teeth!
According to Weibo, the young woman visited the doctor about her teeth and admitted that she has been drinking carbonated drinks as much as we’re supposed to rehydrate ourselves with plain water.
That is A LOT of sweetness and sugar but unfortunately, at the cost of her dental health. She is only 22 years old.
The doctor revealed that she was suffering from severe dental erosion. It is the chemical loss of mineralised tooth substance caused by exposure to acids not derived from oral bacteria, as explained by the American Dental Assiociation. The damage to her teeth has rendered her eating habit tough as minimal pressure on the teeth will risk the teeth getting detached from the gum.
Of course, there is always a way to fix the damage but in this case, it’s going to cost the girl A LOT. The treatment will cost around RMB100,000 (approximately RM66,000), excluding tooth extraction and implantment. That will be around RMB200,000 (RM131,000).
All that sweetness for such a bitterness.
The doctor also emphasised that excessive consumption of carbonated drinks and acidic juices can cause acid erosion and seriously corrode teeth.
This shall serve as a reminder that it’s not wrong to consume sugary drinks at times but always take them moderately. Don’t forget about the deadly diabetes.
