Let’s be honest, no matter how old we are, the moving walkways at airports will forever be a must-do while waiting for flights.
But, now, there’s a new fear unlocked that would have us avoiding these moving walkways.
According to a report by Thaiger, a woman had lost her leg after falling through a moving walkway at the Don Mueang Airport in Thailand.
It all started when someone accidentally bumped into the woman with their luggage while on the moving walkway, causing the woman to fall down. That was when her leg was subsequently pulled into the machine, up until her knee cap.
“From the CCTV footage, it appears that the passenger’s left leg was struck by a suitcase while she was on the escalator. She subsequently fell, and her leg was pulled down,” shared Karun Thanakunjeeraphat, Director of the Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok.
After being rescued by airport staff, she was rushed to a hospital where her leg had to be amputated. Though, the hospital later updated that her leg can be reattached.
The airport officials have since also shared that they will bear the full costs of the woman’s hospital bills as well as provide her with compensation for her extensive injuries.
“We deeply regret the distressing incident at Don Mueang Airport and are fully committed to providing care, covering medical expenses and necessary compensation,” he added.
It’s safe to say that we will never use a moving walkway again.
