The Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) has been going on for more than two months and is set to last until 31 August. However, the Ministry of Health has suggested that the RMCO should be extended considering the current Covid-19 situation in Malaysia.

Nevertheless, the decision is up to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who will most likely make the announcement sometime this week.

“The announcement will be made by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. It will likely be this week, since the announcement (on MCO extensions) is usually made a week before. So let’s just wait patiently,” said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob at a press conference today (25 August).

The Ministry of Health’s suggestion to extend the RMCO comes after the World Health Organisation said that the Covid-19 pandemic is expected to last for at least another two years.

Furthermore, according to Professor Mark Walfort, a member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage), he said that the Covid-19 virus is going to be with us forever and equated it to influenza, stating that vaccinations should be recurring on a global state.

“This is a virus that is going to be with us forever in some form or another and almost certainly will require repeated vaccinations. So, a bit like flu, people will need revaccination at regular intervals,” he said.

Considering the current Covid-19 situation in Malaysia, what do you think the government’s decision should be? Let us know in the comments below!
