As millennials, let’s admit it – we all get a little stressed when we take a digital detox and ban ourselves from using any social networking sites. However, this woman got a little too angry when she was prohibited from using a certain social media site.

Based on a report in Astro Awani, a woman named Arniati who is 22 years old decided to end her life by hanging herself when her husband banned her from using Facebook.

According to local media reports, this unfortunate incident happened in the village of Paret River, Penajam District, in East Kalimantan, Indonesia on Thursday (7th February).

Arniati began quarreling with her husband after he banned her from using the popular social networking site. The quarrel between the both of them was later found out by their neighbours.

After their fight, Arniati’s husband, Sujaedi did not speak a word to her. However, he did say that she continued using Facebook actively even after their fight. Later, it was discovered that Arniati posted a WhatsApp status saying that she decided to hang herself and would apologise to her family for the act of committing suicide.

When Sujaedi saw his wife’s WhatsApp status, he felt bad for quarreling with her. Later that evening, he was completely shocked to discover that Arniati had really hung herself in their room using a swing rope as he didn’t expect her to do so.

Social media may be a big part of our lives in this digital age, but it certainly isn’t worth taking your life for. Our condolences go out to Sujaedi over the passing of his wife. RIP.
