Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently announced that all SPM top scorers, who get 10As and above, will receive guaranteed spots in Matriculation, regardless of race. He said this on June 30 (Sunday), at National Training Week (NTW) 2024 in Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
Following that, Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin praised the Prime Minister’s efforts in fixing the injustice in the education system as the MP himself had submitted 79 appeal letters this year, on behalf of SPM top scorers who were rejected from Matriculation.
Now, slightly more than a week since the Prime Minister’s announcement, it appears that SPM top scorers are still being left out of Matriculation as shared by MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, who is questioning why the Prime Minister’s orders are not being followed.
Taking to his Facebook page, he wrote, “It is truly heartbreaking when my office and the person-in-charge at MCA Youth received calls from helpless parents of those who failed to make it to the Matriculation programme today (July 5).”
“When the appeal results were announced at 3pm just now, many who obtained 10As failed to get into the programme. Even though the Prime Minister had made an official announcement about the Cabinet’s decision, there are still high-achievers who FAILED to enter the Matriculation programme.”
Can the Prime Minister’s orders not be followed?
He went on to share his helplessness in trying to figure out how he could aid the SPM top scorers who were rejected from Matriculation despite their straight As.
“They are disappointed for the second time. I feel for the students as they are so disappointed when they have failed in their appeal attempts even though they scored 10 As or 9As,”
“Recently, the Prime Minister announced that the enrolment of those who scored 10As in Matriculation is guaranteed. But, with today’s disappointing results, how am I going to help them? Many parents are heartbroken because they and their children have such high hopes of getting enrolled into the programme but now their dreams are dashed. Can the Prime Minister help them?”
As of yesterday (July 8), their party is still in the process of attempting to assist these students in their hardships.
We genuinely hope that Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim speaks out about this injustice and correct the wrongs that are happening.
