CNY is almost upon us and we all know what that means; delicious festive food! From the auspicious Yee Sang to the sweetest Nian Gao dessert, everyone has a favourite dish that they look forward to during reunion dinners.
Well, CNY came a little early for us at WORLD OF BUZZ when Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa invited us to feast on their festive CNY offerings. Staying true to the “Winds of Prosperity” theme of the preview, we stuffed our tummies prosperously too!
Just take a peek below and you’ll confirm start drooling with us too!
1. Toss to prosperity Yee Sang
What’s CNY without Yee Sang right? Available for both takeaway and dine-in, The Resort Cafe’s Yee Sang is freshly prepared daily. You can even choose from a selection of sauces which include the signature Plum Sauce and Wasabi Sauce or if you’re as adventurous as we were, try the fresh Avocado Plum Sauce or sweet tangy Rojak Plum Sauce.
We had the fresh salmon and abalone clam with snow pear Yee Sang and it’s just perfect!
Not a fan of salmon and abalone? There are four other selections of Yee Sang you can choose from:
- Crispy Shrimp & Snow Pear
- Alaska Scallop & Salmon Skin
- Fresh Salmon & Soft-Shell Crab
- Cooked Lobster
If you choose to dine-in, The Resort Café will provide you with an add-on full portion Yee Sang starting from MYR148 nett and a half-portion from MYR88 nett.
2. Delectable set menu offerings
Onwards to the scrumptious set menu on offer at The Resort Café buffet. We had the Billow of Longevity set menu and here are some dishes that stood out to us during the preview:
Deep fried chicken slices with cranberry sauce & chicken roulade with ma lat paste
Without further ado, let’s go straight to the meat of it. Chicken meat to be exact! This duo has got to be our favourite dish amongst all that was served.
The delectable sweet cranberry sauce and the spiciness of the ma lat paste complement each other perfectly to arouse our taste buds. The tenderness of the chicken roulade mixed with the crunchiness of the deep fried chicken slices gels together perfectly to create a dish that’s unlike any other.
Definitely a must-try this CNY and we wholly recommend it with all our hearts (and tummies)!
Braised South Africa abalone and money bags with black garlic sauce
What’s a Chinese New Year meal without abalone? Not only did this dish look absolutely gorgeous but was absolutely tasty as well!
The quality of the abalone was really top notch and the rich black garlic sauce really amped up its flavour. The money bags were excellently crafted and its texture – when consumed – really leaves you wanting more!
Crystal prawn meat with golden sand and pine nuts
When Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa‘s Executive Chef Peter Lee personally brought out the dish to our table, we knew we were in for a treat! The de-shelled prawns were deep fried to the most ideal crispiness and topped off with buttery golden sand and crunchy pine nuts.
The golden glow of the prawns seemed to just call out to us to take a bite and when we did, we found the texture and crunchiness of the prawns really heightened with the pine nuts.
We later found out it was a speciality of Chef Peter. No wonder lah!
Waxed meat rice in a claypot
Smoked duck meat with chicken waxed meat served atop claypot rice? Yes, please! Filled to the brim and served in really generous portions, a caramel sauce was added to the dish before everything was mixed together.
The result? A dish that is not just rich and flavourful, but exudes an aroma that left us asking for a second helping!
Double-boiled chicken broth with antler mushroom, Hokkaido dried scallop and fish maw
This comforting hot double-boiled chicken broth was not only wholesome and delicious, but nutritious as well! Filled with antler mushrooms, Hokkaido dried scallop and fish maw, each sip was a heavenly treat and a welcomed detour from all the other dry and fried-based dishes of the day.
Thousand layer radish puff & chilled lemongrass jelly and sun-dried persimmon syrup
To top it all off, we were served a delectable dessert of chilled lemongrass jelly and sun-dried persimmon syrup alongside a delightfully hand-crafted thousand layer radish puff and egg tarts. The detail put into making the thousand layer radish puff was incredible and the taste alongside its texture was definitely one of the highlights of the preview.
Don’t even get us started on the chilled lemongrass jelly and sun-dried persimmon syrup, which has got to be one of the fanciest desserts we’ve ever tried!
Wah, definitely an unforgettable round table feast! The Billow of Longevity set menu is priced at MYR2,088 nett per table of 10 persons. Besides that, there are two other set menus on offer which are:

Amongst the scrumptious desserts that we had were:
- Sweetened ‘Tang Yuen” served with ginger-infused syrup or coated with peanuts.
- Fried and Steamed Nian Gao.
