The Bertam Souk and Water Park in Kepala Batas, Penang, has been ordered to close temporarily starting yesterday (December 28) after they had opened to the public on December 15 (Thursday).
This comes after the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) had discovered that they had started operating without an entertainment license for water theme park activities.
According to a report by Astro Awani, MBSP shared that they had conducted several inspections on December 16 (Friday) up until December 27 (Tuesday).
“MBSP found that the theme park was operating without a license and have issued a notice for the management to stop the entertainment activities of the water theme park under the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 1998,” they wrote.
“However, it was found that the management still failed to comply with the instructions, causing a closure action to be taken at around 9:40am today (December 28).”
Following this, a short video of visitors gathering outside the theme park had gone viral. In the video, MBSP enforcers could also be seen pasting closure notices at the entrance of the premises.

Many visitors were disappointed over the situation as they had came all the way to the theme park in conjunction with the current school holidays.
The theme park, worth a whopping RM90 million, had started operating on December 15 (Thursday) after they were delayed through the Covid-19 pandemic and various other problems.
Considering how long they have already waited and how much they have spent on building the theme park, they could have waited just a while more to obtain a proper license to operate.
