Hygiene and sanitary issues at eateries in Malaysia have been under the spotlight recently. Previously, we reported on how a restaurant in Kota Tinggi was forced to close after a video of a child peeing in its kitchen went viral.
Prior to that, another viral video which showed a rat nibbling on fried chicken at a Kuala Lumpur restaurant resulted in the premise being shut down for 14 days by the authorities.
Now, yet another video of unsatisfactory hygiene practices at a Malaysian eatery has gone viral, which is arguably far worse than the aforementioned 2 incidents. Shared by @tiktok_kluang on TikTok, the video showed a Malaysian getting the biggest shock of his life after finding a rat’s head covered in gravy inside his Nasi Kukus or steamed rice meal.
As of the time of writing, the video has garnered over 1.6 million views, 22,800 likes and 1077 comments. You can watch the whole video below, though be warned as viewer’s discretion is advised.
In the video, the man can be seen examining a suspicious piece of meat covered in the Nasi Kukus gravy. A closer inspection showed that the ‘chicken’ looked exactly like a rat’s head, with a follow-up TikTok video from @tiktok_kluang even drawing lines over the meat to show that it is consistent with a rat’s head.
In the viral video’s caption, the Nasi Kukus was believed to have been bought from an eatery in Putatan, Sabah. Furthermore, the caption also claimed that the eatery has since been ordered to shut down by the Ministry of Health (MOH) for obvious reasons.
As reported by Lobak Merah, most of the comments on the video are of netizens who are disgusted by the incident and criticised the hygiene and sanitary practices of the eatery. Some even questioned how the rat even ended up inside the gravy.
