Although not so popular in Malaysia (because we have tastier chili sauce), the Sriracha Chili Sauce is a condiment that is well-liked by Singaporeans, Australians and New Zealanders. The sauce, however, can also be purchased in Malaysia as there is a demand for it.
Hence this recent announcement might be for you. The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has decided to recall Huy Fong Sriracha Hot Chilli sauce bottles due to the fear of them exploding. The agency has released a media statement in regards to the recall, similar to Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ). The statement mentioned,
“The food recall alert is due to lactic acid build up, which may cause certain bottles to bloat and continue to ferment. The build-up of pressure in the bottles may cause them to explode upon opening.”
This recall affects 17oz and 28oz-sized bottles with best before dates stated as March 2021. So better check the dates when you decide to get a bottle next time or just get one of our own delicious chili sauce.
