A recent video that’s been making the rounds online shows a Chinese tourist throwing a robe handed to them by the security officer during their visit to the Putra Mosque in Putrajaya.
The incident has caught the attention of the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM), prompting them to release a statement to address the situation.
There were reports of several cones being kicked down
In the statement, it was noted that while the tourists were waiting for their robes, one of them was caught on video throwing back the robe at a security guard who was handing them out.
There were also reports of several cones being kicked down, which led the mosque management to investigate the incident further.
“Disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated”
Director General Dato’ Dr. Sirajuddin bin Suhaimee emphasised that the Putra Mosque is always welcoming to visitors and tourists, aiming to showcase the beauty of Islam and promote universal harmony.
“The Putra Mosque welcomes visitors and tourists to the mosque, emphasising the importance of following the Tourism and Visiting Guidelines for Putra Mosque in Putrajaya.”
However, he also pointed out that any uncivilised behaviour that could tarnish the sanctity of the mosque would not be tolerated.
