The nation was shocked recently after 402 children and teens from 20 welfare homes linked to Global Ikhwan Service and Business Holding (GISBH) were rescued following severe abuse.
On September 14, the head of GISBH admitted that “1 or 2” cases of abuse had occurred in their welfare homes but stated that the sodomy incidents only involved a few individuals.
“There’s a lot more abuse happening in the home”
Following the investigations into the case, the police are expected to uncover more abuse cases involving residents from welfare homes connected to GISBH.
According to Berita Harian, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain mentioned that authorities have come across multiple videos showing kids being mistreated, which are suspected to have happened in those welfare homes.
“We believe there’s a lot more abuse happening. We’ll file a report and look into it further. I’ve told the task force officers on this case to submit a report to help with the investigation,” he said.
“Do you want to die?”
Berita Harian reports that in the 2 viral video recordings, one video shows a child in visible pain and crying, likely because a man’s knee is pressing down on his chest. The man can also be seen questioning why the child is crying and pinching his nose.
“Why are you crying? Do you want to die?” he says.
Another video shows children from the welfare home standing in line with their palms raised as a caretaker (who is off camera) repeatedly canes them, causing one of them to writhe in pain and kneel on his chest.
GISBH is now under the spotlight of a police probe after they raided the welfare homes supposedly connected to the group. Razarudin also mentioned that early findings indicated some caretakers had taught the kids to sodomise other children.
The company has denied all the allegations, said they’re fighting to clear their name, and asked the public for help to cover legal fees.
