If you’ve been keeping track of the news recently, you will no doubt have come across reports of how the owners of JAKEL Mall, a popular haven for shoppers buying fabrics for the festive season, have landed themselves in a bout of controversy.

This occurred when Muzaffar Jakel, brother of Datuk Faroz Jakel, who owns Jakel textiles, was found uploading a racially contentious Instagram post that led to a huge uproar over social media, according to The Sun.

Needless to say, this led to the brand catching much flak with locals, who immediately called for a boycott of the brand and its famous mall, located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. In fact, the boycott became so widely circulated, it was among the top trending topics on Malaysian Twitter for a while.

Well, despite all the calls for a massive boycott, it would appear that business hasn’t taken much of a hit at Jakel Mall, after a video surfaced on Saturday (16th May 2020) which shows the entrance of the mall teeming with shoppers. \

In the short clip that was uploaded by a Facebook netizen, crowds were already waiting to enter the mall, lining up and awaiting their turn to make their way in.

After the required temperature screening and registration, many of them were allowed in as an announcer reminded shoppers to maintain a 1-metre social distance between one another.

However, many Facebook netizens have since wondered if it was truly necessary to be shopping for Raya during a pandemic, while others wondered what happened to calls for a boycott.
