Electronic cigarette and vape vendors have been ordered to voluntarily take down their signboards and advertisements before strict action is taken by the local authorities (PBTs) in Selangor.

According to a report by Kosmo, the Selangor Local Government and Tourism Exco, Datuk Ng Suee Lim, shared that relevant notices, including for digital billboards, will be issued to vendors in the near future. He added that his party will take drastic action, including handing out summons, should vendors fail to comply.

“There are hundreds of vape shops in this state, especially in the cities. In the Royal City Council of Klang (MBDK) area alone, there are 45 traders,”

“If they fail to comply with the notice, according to the date and time set, PBT will take down the signboard or advertisement, and all related costs will be charged to them, in addition to a summons,” he explained.

Making moves in consideration of banning the sales of vapes

Earlier, it was reported that all Selangor PBTs were ordered to seize and confiscate any vape-related advertisements in the state.

This decision was reached as a result of a meeting in regards to the proposal to ban the sale of vapes, which was chaired by the Selangor Public Health and Environment Exco, Jamaliah Jamaluddin, together with the Selangor State Health Director, Dr Ummi Kalthom Shamsuddin, representatives of the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN), local authorities (PBT), and officers from the District Health Office (PKD).
