In truly shocking news on the ongoing investigations into the murder of George Floyd that has since sparked a worldwide movement against racism and police brutality, it has been revealed that one of the three other officers involved in his death has been released from jail.
Thomas Lane, 37, who was working as a rookie cop during the horrific incident, was said to have posted the $750,000 (RM 3,186,750) conditional bail. He was released from the Hennepin County jail at 5:08 p.m. Wednesday, as ABC News reports.
However, this does not mean that Mr Lane is an innocent man, as he continues to battle charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter over Floyd’s untimely death. Lane was present alongside two other police officers, when his colleague, Derek Chauvin, was seen kneeling on Floyd’s neck until he stopped breathing.
If convicted, Mr Lane is likely to face up to 40 years in prison. As of writing, he will be closely monitored by law enforcement authorities, and will not be allowed to carry any firearms or participate in any law enforcement activities.
His lawyer is presently trying to push for all charges against him to be dropped.
