When the news broke out that “Beauty and the Beast” may be cancelled in Malaysia as the dates were postponed, you can imagine how heartbroken all of us were!
But in less than 24 hours, there’s good news!
“Beauty And The Beast” is going to show in Malaysia after all!
It’s a happily ever after for all of us!
According to The Star Online, after news of the highly anticipated Disney movie’s postponement due to an “internal review”, the Malaysian Censorship Board (LPF) have approved it to be shown in Malaysian cinemas with a “minor edit.”
Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Hamid, chairman of the LPF addressed the edit of the movie, stating,
“The film has been approved with a P13 parental guidance classification, with a minor cut.”
The P13 rating means that parental guidance is needed for children below 13 years of age. As for what was cut in the movie, Datuk Abdul Halim said it was indeed the “gay moment” concerning Josh Gad’s character, Le Fou.
Datuk Abdul Halim went on to say that the Malaysian Censorship Board had to take note of this movie since its director, Bill Condon, openly stated that Le Fou had an “exclusively gay moment” during the movie.
“Beauty And The Beast”, starring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens and Luke Evans, was set to be released in Malaysian cinemas on the 16th of March, but as of now, there is still no new release date yet.
Recent news surrounding the postponement of the movie’s release date led to Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) and TGV Cinemas refunding customers who purchased tickets for this film yesterday.
Also, the fact that having such a major move to postpone the movie had netizens riled up.
“They afraid people turn gay for watching the movie is it? You don’t see gay men turn straight from watching other movies.” one netizen said.
“These ‘big shots’ think we cannot think for ourselves is it? They are just giving us a bad name!” another wrote.
Ok lah, at least we get to see the movie at some point after all! We all can’t wait till the new dates are released!
