University Malaya has been consistently climbing up the world ranks year after year, and this time, it looks like they’ve achieved yet another milestone!
According to the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University rankings, UM just achieved its highest rank ever, placing 87 out of 1,000 universities around the world. This marks UM’s highest ranking so far, and the first time they have ever broken into the top 100!
Almost all the other Malaysian institutes also rose up the ranks this year. Here’s where our other universities ranked compared to last year;
- Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia: 184 (last year: 230)
- Universiti Putra Malaysia: 202 (last year: 229)
- Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM): 207 (last year: 264)
- Universiti Teknologi Malaysia: 228 (last year: 253)
- Universiti Utara Malaysia: 601-650 (last year: 701-750)
- International Islamic University Malaysia: 651-700 (last year: 701-750)
- Universiti Teknologi MARA: 751-800 (last year: 751-800)
According to the New Straits Times, Director of QS Ben Sowter, pointed out the overall rise in rankings among the Malaysian universities this year, saying,
“Malaysia shines in this edition of the rankings. Its higher education system has a solid reputation among both international academics and employers. To support this positive ascending trajectory, the local universities should continue to focus on increasing the impact of the research they produce.”
What a great achievement for all the universities that made it to this list. Malaysia boleh!
