The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is getting really serious about dirty eateries! After news that they have shut down Raj’s Banana Leaf that was embroiled in controversy for their outrageously unhygienic practices, another three restaurants in Petaling Jaya were also shut down for having pest infestations.

Now, another two eateries have suffered the same fate as they have been shut down by MBPJ on June 6. This means that just this week alone, MBPJ has closed down five eateries so far for not having good hygiene practices. They are cracking down on these dirty eateries by performing random checks and raids at different restaurants.

The Star reports that these two eateries are none other than Face to Face Noodle House and S One One restaurant in Dataran Ara Damansara. If you’ve tried visiting these shops recently, you would have noticed that they have already been shut down and closure notices were attached to the roller shutters.

The restaurants had reportedly breached several violations as MBPJ Councillor Sean Oon said, “Six compounds were issued today for a few different violations.” Amongst them were fines for having dirty kitchens and rat droppings. Eeww, rats in the food we eat!

He said that other violations include broken tiles in the kitchen, which are a health hazard as it could harbour the growth of bacteria and fungus in between the cracked tiles. You don’t want that in your food! There were other instances of food in the kitchen where they were not being stored properly, which is also another violation.

When asked whether these eateries would be reopened, Oon said, “The restaurants will be closed until the broken tiles are fixed and until they pass MBPJ’s cleanliness criteria.”

He had said before that it was not only the cleanliness of the dining area that is taken into consideration but other health and safety regulations must adhere to the set guidelines as well.

Kudos to MBPJ for their fast action! All eateries should really buck up and make sure they are not breaking any of these rules and regulations!
