Starting from July 1, 2025, all vehicles using natural gas (NGV) will no longer be allowed to be registered or licensed in Malaysia.
According to a report by Astro Awani, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook shared that this matter was decided in a Cabinet meeting after taking into account the safety factors for users and the public.
“Accordingly, Petronas will phase out the retail supply of NGV in the market before the complete termination from July 1, 2025. The retail supply of NGV throughout the country has also been phased out since last October 1 and by the second quarter of 2025, there will no longer be any retail supply of NGV in the local market,” he said.
Commenting further, Anthony Loke said that, to help NGV owners transition to other fuels, Petronas NGV Sdn Bhd (PNGV) has taken the initiative to provide an NGV Vehicle Transition Assistance Program fro the affected traget groups, namely NGV taxi drivers, and owners of single and duel fuel NGVs.
This assistance program will consist of 3 packages.
