Tourists in Langkawi were in for a surprise when they found shelves at duty-free stores to be completely out of chocolate!

Apparently, these stores had run out of stock since November 2021.

A report by Kosmo shared that most of the imported chocolates from well-known brands such as Daim and Hershey’s were the ones that received the most demand.

“Langkawi is synonymous with cheap imported chocolate, but some of the shops I went to were mostly out of supply.”

“It feels like our holiday this time was not complete because we couldn’t buy imported chocolate to bring back”, shared a 60-year-old tourist from Kuala Lipis, Pahang.

Another local visitor mirrored his disappointment.

“It looks like I’m going home empty-handed.”

A store owner blamed the shortage on supply problems from suppliers in Singapore.

“The supply of imported chocolate received is limited despite the high number of previous orders. The situation has caused a shortage of imported chocolate supply on the island”, he explained.

So, it appears that the only thing you may be bringing back from Langkawi in a while is memories.

What else would you buy if you can’t find your favourite chocolates at duty-free stores? Let us know in comment section.
