One of the things we used to love back when we were in school was to enjoy a meal with friends at the school canteen. The canteen is often where we would be able to get together with other kids and hang out away from classes.
However, it is worth remembering that not every kid is as privileged as others as some might struggle even to afford food at the school canteen.
Recently, a TikTok user who operates the canteen at a primary school shared his experience on the first day back to school.
In the video shared by @apex.20, he could be seen politely and calmly helping serve kids their food and even helping them to count their balance to ensure that they know exactly how much they are paying for the food.
He also ensured that the kids kept their money safe by getting them to put the banknotes in their pockets right after they get their food.
A girl then comes up to him and when he serves her food and asks her for RM2, the girl shook her head. She then took out a RM1 note out of her pocket and when asked by the man, she shook her head to indicate that she didn’t have anymore money.
He eventually lets the girl go despite her paying him only RM1.
A positive way to treat kids!
The video has since gone viral and currently sits on over 848,300 views. Plenty of netizens took to the comments section to praise the canteen operator for his selflessness.
“Thank you for helping those children especially the ones under hardship.”
“So sociable, the kids will grow up and love this abang canteen,” said a user.
Meanwhile, other users said that they felt sad by the little girl who only had RM1 to bring to school.
“Maybe she comes from a family that is not well to do,” stated another user.
