Here Nixon cleverly adopts the iconic mind-blown meme to tell us that change can only begin with us. Well said Nixon! You know what they say about life imitating art? Malaysians could all learn a thing or two from imitating these comics!
He’s even done some comics on the latest political shenanigans!
In an interview with WORLD OF BUZZ, this is what Nixon told us about his work and inspirations.
Nixon Siow has been an illustrator for about 7 years. As for his inspiration behind the Wawasan 2020 series, he points to the historic GE14.
“Many Malaysians have put high hopes on the new government, and are expecting better service and ministration. Should we as Rakyat put full responsibility on our new government? I truly believe, no matter what position we hold in society, we play a crucial role in making and sustaining the change that we hope to see.”
It took him about a month to create these fun illustrations that is feasible and easily understood by Malaysians. This is to encourage the Rakyat to keep that positive mindset and make a change even with the smallest actions in our daily lives. No action is too small! We can contribute to create a true Wawasan 2020, starting from today.
As for Malaysian artists who have inspired and influenced his work, he points to Lat and Black Jellyfish; while those who are non-Malaysian: Keigo, Tuna Dunn, Alfonso Wong Kar Hei.
When we asked him about his hopes for the local art scene, this is what he said:
“I hope more and more people will appreciate Malaysian art. Malaysia actually has a lot of good talents. Artist get a high pay, haha. This set of comics are produced without any sponsors!”
