We Malaysians LOVE our sweet, spicy, and savoury chilli crab, best savoured in places like Chinese seafood restaurants (arguably the only way, really). It’s a local delicacy that’ll continue to be savoured for generations to come, and if you’ve had it before, would it be that surprising?
But did it ever occur to you, “What if we combine chilli crab with RAMEN?” You probably didn’t, but the mad lads at Ramen Mob certainly did — and they even included donburi (rice bowl) and tamago (egg)!

They recently announced their new Chilli Crab menu, and netizens seem to be taking it well so far.

How do they look in person?

Ramen Mob’s Chilli Crab Ramen utilises a brothless ramen style called mazesoba, recognisable by its QQ chewy noods mixed with rich sauces and flavourful toppings. Instead of a full-size crab, this dish comes with chilli crab sauce that contains real crab meat.

Plus, it’s topped with a WHOLE soft shell crab to drive up the crab factor, as well as ajitama (soy egg), seaweed, and negi (Japanese spring onion) for even more flavours.
If you prefer rice, their Chilli Crab menu also includes Chilli Crab Donburi, and even Chilli Crab Tamago.

We tried it all! Here’s what we thought:

If you’re a chilli crab lover, the Chilli Crab Ramen is worth a try! Ramen Mob pretty much nailed the taste and texture of the chilli crab sauce (it’s like a lite version of the original dish), with the mazesoba style letting you thoroughly coat your ramen with its meaty sauce. The other toppings also help add different flavours to the dish, so every bite is hardly the same.
But the soft shell crab, though! Deep-fried to perfection, it’s oh-so-satisfying every time we sink our teeth into this golden goodness, not to mention it was well-sized so we actually got full.

As for the Chilli Crab Donburi, the rice is a good alternative to enjoy the chilli crab sauce with — it reminded us of dining at those Chinese seafood restaurants, albeit with the crab already peeled for us (so we can focus on eating!).

If you’re wondering about the Chilli Crab Tamago, the sweetness of the tamago pairs surprisingly well with the chilli crab sauce, with the crab meat making this side dish even more hearty than it already is.

But overall, chilli crab lovers should at least try these once in their lives, especially the ramen! It’s an interesting ramen invention that combines the best of Japanese ramen and Malaysian tastes. Our advice? Top the soft shell crab with some of the chilli crab sauce for maximum indulgence!
Ramen Mob’s Chilli Crab Ramen is priced at RM34.90, while the Chilli Crab Donburi and Chilli Crab Tamago are priced at RM25.90 and RM13.90, respectively. Available for a limited time only.
