As Malaysians, we are lucky enough to be spoilt for choice when we are looking for food to eat but somehow, Korean food still holds a special place in our hearts. Especially if you are a K-pop or K-drama fan! While there are many Korean restaurants around, they are usually more traditional (and not to mention, on the pricier side) but recently, there has been a wave of modern Korean restaurants that have been mushrooming and boy, are they tantalising our taste buds!
One of them is none other than Ojju, an internationally known contemporary Korean-inspired cuisine restaurant that brings to life traditional Korean home-cooked dishes with a modern twist. They recently opened in Nu Sentral Mall and the crowds seem to be flooding the eatery already! Their dishes are inspired by a rich history that started from the Korean war in the 1940s but has since been enhanced to suit our palate while still remaining true to its origins.
WORLD OF BUZZ was lucky enough to be able to sample some of their signature dishes recently and we’re still drooling now when we think of the yummy food. The best part? They’re super wallet-friendly with main dishes from just RM14! Here are some of the items we tried:
1. Rolling cheese with Korean fried chicken wings in honey spice
Price: From RM43.90
Served with fries and a generous amount of ooey, gooey mozzarella cheese, this dish that’s perfect for sharing among two to three pax was a treat for both our sight and taste buds. Our server melted the cheese in front of us and wrapped that cheesy goodness around the sweet and spicy chicken wings so that we would be able to enjoy it even better. After that, some rice was added to the leftover cheese and an egg was moulded into a cute heart shape for us to chase down our chicken wings. It was superb!
2. Teobokkii & eomuk bokkeum
Price: RM13.90
As everyone knows, teobokkii is the chewy rice cake and it was doused in a generous portion of sweet and spicy gochujang, fish cakes and topped with a hard boiled egg and some scallions. We liked how the sauce complemented all the ingredients so well!
3. Gyeran jjim
Price: RM7.90
If you never heard of this then you should definitely try it because this appetizer is actually super fluffy steamed eggs! We were pleasantly surprised by how fluffy and soft this dish was and couldn’t stop ourselves from devouring the whole thing quickly. It was almost like eating a cloud!
4. Japchae
Price: From RM16.90
Japchae is made of stir-fried sweet potato starch noodles with vegetables and meat, and in Ojju, we had ours with beef. This is a popular dish that can be seen in many Korean restaurants and Ojju makes a really awesome version of it as the glass noodles were the perfect balance of sweet meets savoury in a wonderfully springy texture!
5. Tutti fruity generation
Price: RM19.90
Finally, we ended our meal on a sweet note with one of their delectable bingsoos boasting an abundance of fruits that truly refreshed our palate.
Of course, that’s not all the food they have there! Other dishes available include rolling cheese beef ribs that are made with a secret batter recipe and special sauces that have become the craving of many cheese lovers. Meanwhile, Ojju’s hearty budae jjigae (army stew) has 16 wholesome ingredients that will restore your soul and they also have a mac n cheese dish with a Korean spin!
Besides the yummy dishes Ojju has to offer, what we also appreciated were Ojju’s affordable prices that won’t put a huge dent in your wallet!
I mean, their Teobokki & Eomuk Bokkeum, as well as OJJU Beef Miyeok-Guk, only cost RM13.90!
Time to jio your friends and try it out for yourself!
