Wealth doesn’t necessarily come with happiness.

Despite having more than RM1 million in savings and owning two apartments, a 48-year-old Malaysian woman recently admitted that her wealth does not bring her complete happiness.

To many, her life appears not only complete but also successful and enviable. With the ability to drive a luxury car and travel abroad at least twice a year, it would seem there is little else she could ask for.

The weight of silence

However, no one sees what happens once she closes her front door. At night, when she returns home, there is no voice to say, “You’re back”; there is only an ironically loud silence.

In an anonymous Facebook post, she admitted that her situation isn’t due to a lack of interest from others or a refusal to settle down. Instead, she asserted that she simply maintains high standards.

“I deserve a partner who is mature, emotionally steady, financially secure, able to communicate, and willing to spend time with me. After everything I’ve built, I don’t want to compromise.”

“I long for a meaningful connection”

In her post, she also highlighted how she has always been occupied with work, investments, and financial planning. When friends invite her out, she often declines.

“Family gatherings feel exhausting. Friends’ gatherings feel superficial. I long for depth, for a meaningful connection,” she wrote.

There are nights when she sits in her living room with the television on, though she isn’t watching it. She scrolls through her phone, even though no one is waiting for her message.

She possesses money, property, and freedom, yet she lacks someone to share the quiet moments with.

According to her friends, she has set her standards too high. Consequently, she is no longer sure whether she should accept her fate of being alone or continue her search for a partner.
