Age gap between partners in romantic relationships have always been a point of contention. Everybody has a different idea of what constitutes an appropriate age gap.
Recently, a Malaysian shared on her TikTok account, @mamaadha97 (Mira) a video about her marriage that raised eyebrows.
The video that has accumulated more than 300,000 views is a compilation of photos and short videos of Mira and her husband.
She wrote in the video, “Used to be adoptive father, after that became husband. If it was meant to be…,” which shocked netizens.
They bombarded the comment section of her viral video asking for clarification, which she did, but the comment section is now closed.
According to Mira, her husband, Zaini Ramli, 46, is not her actual adoptive father.
The two met at their workplace a year ago, where Zaini, who had been single for 9 years, was lovingly known to everyone in the office as their “adoptive father“.
“I didn’t expect to fall for him. I just started slowly developing feelings“, said Mira who added that she decided to give her and Zaini a shot because “there was nothing wrong with trying”.
After dating for a bit, they realised that it was fate and got married last month.
Haters will hate
While there were many comments congratulating Mira on her marriage, there were also those who accused Zaini of child grooming due to the 21-year age gap between them.
However, Mira made another video addressing the criticism she got.
“I don’t care about the insults people throw at us because ‘adoptive father’ can mean many things“, she said.
She explains that, “I consider my husband my ‘adoptive father’ because he’s the same age as my parents“.
“I met him when I was 24. He had been single for 9 years at the time. It’s not like I can call him abang (brother) right? If I addressed him as pak cik (uncle), it would’ve made him seem so old.”
“Plus, it’s not haram. He’s not my biological father and he’s not somebody else’s husband.”
