Recently, Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar and Prime Minister (PMX) Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim shared a meal at a famous Asam Pedas restaurant, Asam Pedas Botak, in Johor Bahru.
This then led the eatery to attract a much larger crowd than usual.
The restaurant took to its TikTok page to showcase the influx of people eating at their restaurant as well as the long queue outside, following the visit from our country’s rulers.
They wrote, “The power of the Agong and PMX.”
Is it Halal?
However, YDPA’s choice to bring PMX to the eatery for a meal has caused mixed reactions online, with many questioning whether the restaurant is Halal due to its Chinese staff and decorations.
They also condemned Muslims for eating at the restaurant, as seen in the restaurant’s video following YDPA and PMX’s visit.
Despite the backlash, many also praised YDPA and PMX, pointing out that His Highness and the Prime Minister showed an example of racial harmony in Malaysia.
“That’s our Sultan. His Highness knows what is on His Highness’ plate. It’s not like the owner would even dare to serve non-Halal food to the Agong. Now, this is what we call unity in diversity.”
“Long live the King! (They are) leaders with the spirit of the people. Unlike those who are type P (politicians) who play with racial sentiments.”
“This is an example of the racial unity in Johor.”
It is unsure whether the eatery has Halal certification or if it is a ‘No Pork, No Lard’ eatery.
