There’s never a bad time to be a Pokémon fan in Malaysia. Every single year without fail, we’ve been pampered with new merchandise, Pokémon Trading Card Game packs, and – most importantly – video games! This year is (thankfully) no exception, with an upcoming new Pokémon game that serves as the beginning of a new generation.

“But ah, is it really worth buying? I worry same-same only leh!” Worry not, fellow fan, as we’ve done our thesis-level research to uncover whether Pokémon Scarlet & Violet are worth buying. Jom read on to find out what’s our verdict!
1. A whole new world teeming with excitement!
Paldea region
Magnificent landscapes, clear blue lakes, towns brimming with life, treacherous wastelands and mountain ranges – the all-new Paldea region is truly transcendent!
Venture forth into an exciting world filled with a wide variety of environments for you to explore, as well as settlements where people and Pokémon live in harmony together, at luscious farming villages, bustling port towns and more!
Most importantly, you’ll be able to explore Paldea in a true open-world experience, which means you can seamlessly transition between the outside world and settlements!
As for you, you’ll begin your journey as a student at the OLDEST school in Paldea: Naranja Academy and Uva Academy, for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, respectively.
This prestigious school stands out with its rich history, making it the perfect meeting ground for both Pokémon trainers and academicians alike to test their mettle. The game version you buy will determine your school name, emblem, uniform and the like, so choose wisely!
2. Carve your very own destiny!
Instead of attending classes on Pokémon (though we wouldn’t have minded!), you will be assigned an independent study assignment, the Treasure Hunt. The idea is that everyone has their own perception of what a “treasure” is, which is why for the first time ever, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet will let you embark on THREE different storylines to find your “treasure”!
These are the stories you can live out:
- Victory Road: To be the very best
- Reach the rank of Champion by defeating eight gym leaders scattered across Paldea AND passing the Champion Assessment test at Pokémon League headquarters!
- Path of Legends: To discover exotic Titan Pokémon
- Help your fellow classmate Arven defeat larger-than-life Titan Pokémon, who serve as guardians of the rare herbs, Herba Mystica, that are essential to his research.
- Starfall Street: To be the academy’s hero(ine)
- Teach Team Star (the academy’s resident troublemakers) a lesson in decency by invading their bases and standing up against the bullies!
Victory Road: Before challenging the Gym Leader, you must first pass unique Gym tests.
Path of Legends: Look at the size of that Titan Pokémon!
Starfall Street: Overcome Team Star Grunts and the extravagant Starmobile to take down the big boss!
Best of all, you can freely switch back and forth between all three stories! That way, you can experience everything the game offers at your own pace – arguably the best part about Pokémon Scarlet & Violet!
3. Meet new Pokémon and ride new Legendaries!

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet will be introducing many new Pokémon for you to catch, train, manja, trade and battle with. Your starter Pokémon will also have new faces, with perfect-for-cat-lovers Sprigatito (Grass type), adorable foodie Fuecoco (Fire type), or fastidious no-nonsense Quaxly (Water type) as your first Pokémon choice.

And depending on which version you buy, you’ll also have the chance to cross paths with new Legendary Pokémon: Koraidon (Pokémon Scarlet) and Miraidon (Pokémon Violet)! These mysterious Legendaries are rumoured to have extraordinary powers that exceed your regular Pokémon.
More importantly, they also possess the ability to change their forms to better traverse any terrain they’re on! ?

Here are all the cool traversal modes these Legendary Pokémon have to turn up your adventure:
- Sprinting Build/Drive Mode: Speed through the expansive Paldea region at full speed with the wind blowing in your face.
- Swimming Build/Aquatic Mode: Explore rivers, lakes and oceans easily or brave treacherous waters in one piece.
- Gliding Build/Glide Mode: Fly off mountains, cliffs and towers to glide towards your location – don’t forget to enjoy the view!

4. “You can have a picnic with your Pokémon???”
Absolutely! You can have picnics almost anywhere in the region, and you can even design and arrange your tablecloth, cups, water bottles, and other picnic items. When you start picnicking, your party Pokémon (Koraidon or Miraidon are invited too!) will come out and mingle!
Here are all the fun stuff you can do while picnicking:
- Make memories: Pick trendy photo filters and take group photos or selfies with your Pokémon pals!
- Craft your own sando: Make sandwiches for you and your Pokémon with a wide variety of fillings and condiments; sandwiches restore health and may even give your Pokémon status buffs!
- Bond with your Pokémon: Speak to them face-to-face or play with them using toys to strengthen your relationship.
- Freshen them up: Give your Pokémon a good wash to restore their health and clean looks, as well as increase your bond.
- The more the merrier: Have a picnic with your friends and let your Pokémon get to know each other!
5. Invite your friends and play together!
Gaming is always better with friends, which is why Pokémon Scarlet & Violet’s Poké Portal lets you do just that!
Jump into the new Union Circle feature and play with up to three friends in the same area, where you can battle wild Pokémon together, show off your Pokémon, or ride through the terrains with your own Legendary Pokémon. The possibilities are endless, so be sure to not miss this feature!
Or if you want to take things to the next level, take part in Tera Raid Battles with your buddies and defeat a Terastallized wild Pokémon within a time limit! Interestingly, this new battle mode lets you and your party attack simultaneously, no need to wait for each other to act – for the best result, plan your attacks and make sure you have each others’ backs by healing and casting defensive abilities!

Ikr? Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet actually have quite a lot of new features that weren’t in previous entries, and we believe that newcomers can even enjoy them without playing the other Pokémon games.
