Even if we can refuel our cars without switching off the engine, this story proves we should not do that.
On the morning of March 31, a man named Lim was refuelling his Toyota Alphard without turning the engine off or locking his doors.
When he was finally done with filling in the petrol, he walked over to the driver’s side of his car to see a man he didn’t know in the seat.
The man then locked the doors and sped off, leaving Lim at the petrol station.
According to Oriental Daily, Lim had about RM30,000 worth of belongings in the car including a Louis Vuitton bag, a Fendi card bag, 2 iPhones, a Huawei mobile phone, 2 pairs of Dior sunglasses, 2 pairs of Fendi shoes, a Chanel scarf, a Coach jacket, more than RM100 and also 100 SGD in cash.
It is worth noting that the car itself costs RM200,000 and has only been used for less than 2 years.
With his phone in the car, Lim borrowed a kind passerby’s phone and contacted his girlfriend, Law.
By tracking one of the iPhones in the car, she found that it had traveled about 100 km on the North-South highway and stopped at a petrol station in Sedenak, Johor.
After that, the location of the iPhone changed to Tampoi, Johor Bahru and Lim and his girlfriend believed that the iPhone was probably left by the roadside.
A friend of Law went to the petrol station and upon checking the CCTV footage, the thief rested there for an hour before driving off again.
The couple posted about this on Facebook and offered a reward to anyone who found their car. This created a lot of buzz around the issue and on April 1, the car was found in Sedenak.
In a Facebook post, they said that their belongings in the car were all missing except for 1 single pair of shoes that belonged to Law.
We hope that the perpetrator will be found soon.
