Over the years, we’ve seen our fair share of good and bad Raya songs. This year, however, Mimi Fly’s latest release, “Serumpun,” has emerged as a standout.
Thanks to its unique blend of modern and traditional elements, the song has quickly garnered praise for its originality and creativity.
“Serumpun” features a modern, funky, and hip touch while still maintaining traditional elements and is rich with advisory messages. Within 16 hours of its release, the song has garnered over 80,000 views.

The song’s lyrics highlight the concept of unity among the Nusantara community, using metaphors like “serai serumpun” (a cluster of lemongrass) and “sirih tersusun” (arranged betel leaves) to symbolise unity and togetherness in celebrating Syawal.
The uniqueness of this song is further enhanced by the appearance of classic Malay, Thai, and Javanese ethnic attire in its music video, symbolising the cultural diversity that celebrates Aidilfitri despite different ethnicities.

In the comments section of the music video on YouTube, Malaysian praised the singer for the song’s unique concept and for promoting cultural unity.
“(Usage of) sign language, Malaysian culture, Chinese and Indian dancers, Malay, Javanese & Siamese guests. This is totally different! Great song! Congratulations Mimi, keep creating.”
Another said, “The Raya song of the year so far. It neither overshadows nor is overshadowed. It stands in a class of its own and has originality.”
