In a recent story, a 36-year-old Thai woman revealed that a needle was accidentally left in her during childbirth, impacting her health and well-being for years.

South Morning China Post reported how she had no idea about the needle until last year when an X-ray at a government hospital showed the needle stuck in her private part.

She wrote a letter to a foundation to get help

The Pavena Foundation for Children and Women shared that they received a letter from the woman who’s living in Narathiwat, the Thai province neighbouring Kelantan, whose name has not been disclosed.

The Thai non-profit offers support and resources to help abuse victims, including those dealing with serious trauma like rape, harassment, and human trafficking.

In her letter, she asked for help with a medical mistake that happened 18 years ago during what was supposed to be a routine delivery at a hospital.

“The needle still can’t be removed to this day”

While stitching her up during delivery, the medical staff accidentally dropped a needle into her private part and wasn’t able to retrieve it.

Concerned about too much bleeding, they decided to close up the wound, leaving the needle inside. Since then, she’s been dealing with intense, off-and-on pain in her lower abdomen.

Despite getting referred to a hospital in Songkhla for surgery, the procedure has been delayed 3 times because the needle keeps shifting inside her.

She’s required to visit the hospital 4 times a month

Right now, the needle still hasn’t been removed, and she has to go to the hospital 4 times a month for follow-up visits to check her condition.

Even though most of her medical costs are covered by insurance, she’s still facing financial strain from extra expenses like transportation, which her struggling family can’t afford.

After receiving her request, the foundation worked with a local public hospital and arranged for the village head to accompany her for full treatment.

They also got in touch with the local social security office to arrange transport for her hospital visits and promised to keep following up on her care.

So far, there’s no word yet on when the needle can be removed or how long her treatment will take. Stay tuned for more updates!
