A couple in China had the shock of their lives after the wife in the duo had given birth to a baby that didn’t appear as they expected.

According to a report by China Press, the day of their baby’s birth had turned into somewhat of a nightmare after the 30-year-old woman in Shanghai allegedly gave birth to the baby with oddly dark skin. The woman’s husband, who was eager to meet his baby, ended up staring at the child in disbelief and refused to hold the baby.

The woman, who had endured a C-section birth, later took to social media to share the incident while asking other mothers for advice on how to handle the situation. After explaining how her husband had reacted, she admitted to feeling embarrassed to hold the baby as she, too, found the baby’s skin colour to be odd.

She also clarified that she “had never been to Africa and didn’t know any black people”.

Bewildered by the baby, her husband apparently asked for a paternity test to prove that the child was his.

While the woman agrees to the test, as she insists the baby belongs to her husband and that the test will prove this, she feels wronged by her husband’s suspicions of her and believes that the trust between them has been permanently broken.

However, many have since taken to her social media post to assure her that her baby’s dark skin tone is a natural and common occurrence and that the baby’s skin colour “will lighten over time”.

They also clarified that the baby’s skin colour is “dark red” that will “eventually turn white”.
