A large majority of us have revolved into fully relying on GPS to get to our destinations, should we not know the directions. The other portion that don’t use GPS probably don’t drive (we’re kidding, or are we?).
While GPS has ultimately become the most reliable source for directions, there are times were people have been led astray.
The Pattaya News took to their Facebook page to showcase a car stuck on a suspended bridge in Phrae, Thailand, after a woman had followed her GPS, which instructed her to drive on it.
They wrote, “In a story going viral nationally, a Thai woman ended up stranded above the Yom River in Phrae after she claims the GPS told her to cross this tiny pedestrian bridge with her car and she said she believed the device. She said it wasn’t her fault, entirely blaming the GPS company.”
The Pattaya News further reported that a 38-year-old resident of the area, Mr. Makun Inchan, was crossing the suspended bridge when he was surprised to come across a Honda City stuck on it after the front left tyre had fallen through a gap 15 meters into the bridge.
He heard the driver’s cries for help and immediately called emergency services. Thankfully, 2 tractors were later able to pull the car back to safety.
Considering the fact that the bridge is said to be unfit for large vehicles, it’s a miracle that things didn’t get worse.
Perhaps it’s best for everyone to be more aware of their surroundings even while using GPS devices.
