These days, robbers are getting bolder, and people are going to extreme lengths just to get their hands on some money.

In a recent post, Tammy Lim opened up about a distressing experience involving her dad, who became the victim of a robbery after an unknown man followed him while he was in the parking lot of a mall in Klang, Selangor.

The man followed him and entered his car

Tammy shared her concerns on Facebook, revealing how her elderly dad had gone to a telco centre in the mall to pay his phone bills.

She went on to explain that her dad was apparently targeted from the time he was inside the mall all the way to his car. The man followed him to his car, opened the passenger door, and got inside.

“The suspect is believed to be a Chinese man in his 50s, with black hair, wearing a white shirt and black pants, and he spoke both Mandarin and English,” Tammy added.

The man demanded his dad’s credit card and phone

Tammy shared that the man had instructed her dad to drive to a nearby fast-food outlet in Jalan Taiping, Shah Alam, where he then demanded her dad’s credit card and phone.

She explained that her dad, who is in his 70s, has some health conditions and isn’t tech-savvy, making it difficult for him to communicate, which sadly made him an easy target for the robber.

“Anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from around 2–3 pm at these locations, please come forward. It would really help with the investigation. My dad was an easy target, and honestly, most elderly people are these days,” she added.

Tammy also mentioned that since her dad no longer has his phone, the thief has been using it to make transactions, racking up losses of over RM45,000 in just a few hours.

“The first round of withdrawals on his credit card involved 15 transactions made between 2:44 pm and 3:15 pm. The second round followed shortly after, with 12 more withdrawals carried out between 3:20 pm and 3:30 pm.”

“I thank God my dad is safe”

Tammy’s dad tried to find a phone he could use but couldn’t remember his own number. Luckily, Tammy’s sister worked in an office right next to the mall, and she was the one who managed to find him.

Tammy shared how her sister did everything she could, from calling the banks to taking her dad to the police station to file a report.

“I thank God my dad is safe and wasn’t left stranded in some forest.”

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Tammy opened up about her fear, saying,

“People need to know this is happening. It’s just so easy for someone to max out cash withdrawals up to RM45,500. If you can, don’t let elderly folks carry anything valuable anymore, and always make sure they don’t go out alone for their safety.”
