Last year, the biggest thing to hit Malaysians was Menu Rahmah. While many regular folks were enjoying super affordable meals, the vendors who sold Menu Rahmah food also shared their opinions on the sustainability of the food programme.
Now, it appears that it didn’t sustain at all.
According to a report by Kosmo, vendors have shared that they have dropped Menu Rahmah from their stores as it suitable for them in the long run, especially with their reported losses.
57-year-old restaurant owner, Habsah Hamid, shared that he was only able to offer Menu Rahmah for 2 months after the food programme was launched.
“Within 2 months after the launch of the Menu Rahmah initiative, my business declined sharply because I had to spend quite a lot on capital and at the same time, failed to make a profit,” he said.
They knew it??
Now that many vendors have dropped out of offering Menu Rahmah, Malaysians are sharing that they had predicted that the food programme would not last.
“Menu Rahmah is actually a temporary gimmick to please the people. The people are now being served with tax increases and subsidy withdrawals.”
“I’ve already said so earlier. And now it has become a reality. It’s a domino theory.”
“I’ve said so already, it wouldn’t last long.”
“I expected this, it was just a temporary play.”
One netizens also pointed out that a majority of those who offered Menu Rahmah and ended up in losses are small business owners who are often underprivileged themselves. He added that that Menu Rahmah should have been offered by eateries owned by the wealthy.
