A recent TikTok video has been circulating online, showing a mom of a Standard 2 student being called out by her child’s teacher, who questioned whether it was actually her daughter who completed the school homework.
In the video, the teacher was seen telling parents in a group chat that she didn’t believe the student completed the homework herself. She accompanied this remark with a photo and warned the parents not to do their children’s homework for them.
Multiple teachers didn’t believe it was the student’s handwriting
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, @azzura.empire, the student’s mother, shared that the issue first surfaced when her daughter’s (Maryam) English teacher confronted her, asking her to erase her homework and rewrite it in front of her.
After noticing that the handwriting was identical, the teacher concluded that it was indeed Maryam’s own work and that she had completed her homework by herself.
One particular teacher felt sceptical…
The single mother went on to explain that, despite several teachers encountering the same situation with Maryam and were convinced it was her handwriting after asking her to rewrite it, one particular teacher had a different view…
In a separate incident, another teacher encountered the same issue with Maryam but chose to address it in a WhatsApp group rather than speaking with her directly.
In the WhatsApp conversation, the teacher mentioned,
“Dear parents, please avoid doing your child’s homework. Teachers are not fools who cannot tell the difference between a student’s writing and an adult’s. I’ll have the student erase it and redo the entire work themselves.”
“She wrote it herself, I was just there to supervise”
Azzura decided to respond to the teacher’s message in the group, clarifying that it wasn’t her doing, especially since she can’t even write it herself, let alone spell it correctly.
“That’s not my writing. Maryam wrote it herself, I just supervised. I only told her to write neatly. If it’s not tidy and beautiful, I’ll ask her to erase it and write it again. That’s all.”
She opened up about her struggles in handling the situation, mentioning that some parents in the group had read her messages and encouraged her to remain patient with the teacher’s behaviour, as they were just as shocked by the teacher’s comments.
She also shared that the teacher had previously posted in the group, listing the names of students with poor handwriting that was difficult to read. This is why she always ensures that her daughter’s handwriting is neat.
There’s always 2 sides to the story
Azzura spoke to WORLD OF BUZZ and mentioned that since she uploaded the video, one netizen highlighted that there are always 2 sides to every story. This person also suggested that she share a video of Maryam rewriting the homework to show that her intention of posting wasn’t just to create a story for views.
In response, Azzura also mentioned that she’s currently working on part 2 of the video and plans to share it soon, along with an explanation of what happened with the teacher after the incident.
This video has garnered 705.8K views and 14.6K likes as at time of writing!
