Just recently, a political party known as Parti Kuasa Rakyat (PKR) was launched, with the Prime Minister’s brother as the lead.
Ever since its formation on 17 September 2020, the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA), founded by Muar’s MP, Syed Saddiq is yet to be registered as a political party, despite the multiple applications which were rejected by The Registry of Societies Malaysia (RoS).
However, according to an interview with BFM Radio, the Muar MP expressed that he remains hopeful that the multi-racial and youth-centric political party will be registered by end of the year. He also revealed why his political party was constantly denied permission to be registered.
‘The reason given was a so called failure to pass security clearance, as if we are a bunch of young political threats,” he said to BFM Radio.
Saddiq also said that in this year alone, many parties have been registered but not MUDA although the petition was kickstarted last year.
‘I’ve personally met with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Home affairs for many times, as well as the officers in the RoS,’ he added, emphasizing on how the meetings and the party’s commitment have been proven unfruitful.
In the meantime, Saddiq also took his time to explain why he refused to be part of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the government and Pakatan Harapan. When the former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin was still in charge, Saddiq had been proposing the same reforms, Confidence and Supply Agreements since July last year, but to no avail.
“The idea was me and some of the others can be accepted, but not Democration Action Party (DAP) and other parties,” he explained how this completely defeats the purpose of a reform plan.
As of now, the High Court has fixed 14 December to hear MUDA’s application to reverse the home minister’s decision to reject its appeal against the government’s refusal to register the party, reported The Edge Markets. On 26 April, Saddiq and 12 others filed MUDA’s first judicial review application to challenge the rejection from RoS.
