A man who drove a sports utility vehicle (SUV) dangerously on the Sungai Besi Highway claimed his actions were due to a flat tyre after hitting a pothole.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, said his department detected a one-minute video uploaded on social media on Saturday (22 November), showing a Range Rover Velar being driven recklessly toward Taman Naga Emas.

“The vehicle was seen moving with a broken and damaged rear right tyre and continued on the road at 8 AM yesterday,” he said.

The driver’s dangerous actions were also recorded by a motorcyclist before the SUV stopped at a traffic light on Jalan Kuchai Maju. A viral video shows the driver continuing to drive despite the rear right rim being completely exposed.

Urine test underway

Mohd Zamzuri said in a statement today that the 32-year-old driver voluntarily went to the police station this morning (23 November).

“The man claimed he continued driving because his tyre burst after hitting a pothole, and since his home was nearby, he decided to head straight there,” he explained.

Investigations are ongoing, including urine and breath screening tests (EBA) on the individual.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
