While generational differences may seem small, they have a big impact on the workplace. Baby boomers are the eldest, followed by Generation X, Generation Y, and the youngest generation in today’s workforce, Gen Z.
Baby boomers, less familiar with AI compared to younger generations, are increasingly falling behind as more countries integrate AI into their workforce. A recent study found that 1 in 3 Malaysians have never used AI at work, particularly baby boomers.
1 in 3 Malaysian baby boomers have never used AI
According to a study by Randstad, it turns out that 1 in 3 Malaysian baby boomers have never used AI at work, and another 10% have only tried AI tools once.
Interestingly, the study also found that 45% of respondents think that AI will contribute to increased job satisfaction.
In Malaysia, 81% of the 2,500 respondents understand how AI will affect their jobs. Even though almost half the Gen Xers haven’t experienced AI at work, 71% believe it will impact their careers.
More than 1 in 5 Gen Zs are using AI often
Based on the study, more than 1 in 5 workers are using AI regularly, especially Gen Zs. However, 34% of respondents said they have never used AI tools at work.
Interestingly, there are huge differences between generations in terms of exposure to AI. In the workplace, 42% of Gen Xers have never used AI, while this figure rises to 73% among baby boomers.
Randstad has conducted the study survey with nearly 173,000 respondents and 6,084 companies surveyed worldwide.
The rise of AI has been a thrilling experience, and it’s natural for employees to wonder about its effects on their careers. Getting familiar with new technologies early on can improve career prospects and skill development within the workplace!
