It’s safe to say that Covid-19 has changed the way we work, our social lives, and our lifestyles. While some of us have managed to adapt to the new norms, celebratory occasions and festive seasons are still difficult to celebrate given the circumstances.
But just because we’re stuck indoors, doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate meaningful occasions with our loved ones. With Mother’s Day coming up over the weekend, here are six ways you can make this year’s Mother’s Day celebration special and memorable, even if it’s indoors!
1. Baking together
Food always brings people together and if you want to strengthen your bond with your mother this upcoming Mother’s Day, baking is definitely an activity you should try together. With the MCO and Covid-19 numbers still as high as ever, it’s safer and healthier to eat in any way! So what better way to spend some quality time with your mum while preparing some delicious baked treats for the occasion?
Plus, what’s a celebration without cakes, right?
2. Virtual gatherings
If you’re no longer living with your parents or if you’re separated due to the MCO, you can try and plan a virtual celebration with your mum for Mother’s Day this year! It’s definitely not the same as a physical celebration but hey, thanks to the world’s latest technology, we can always spend time with our mums through Skype, FaceTime, Zoom, etc. You can cook or eat together while FaceTime-ing each other too!
3. Indoor/Garden picnic
If you do have a chance to spend time with your mum at home this Mother’s Day, you can plan a front or backyard potluck with her. After all, who doesn’t love picnics and food? You can spend time cooking together just to make it a little more interesting. Bring the food out and have a nice picnic with her! If you happen to live in an apartment, you can even have a beautiful view from your balcony to accompany your picnic.
If you don’t have a garden or backyard, you can always get creative and find pictures of scenic spots online to put up on your TV screen to make it feel like you guys are outdoors. After all, it’s the company that’s most important, and we’re sure your mum will appreciate the sentiment!
4. Surprise delivery
Since a lot of us can’t make it home for this year’s Mother’s Day celebration due to the MCO, a surprise delivery might just be the way to go to show your mother that you’re thinking of her! Who doesn’t love gifts, especially when it’s a surprise?
It can be a gift basket, a flower bouquet, some desserts or maybe just a really nice lunch. Your mum is sure to feel appreciated knowing that you spent time planning this surprise for her. Our abang-abang riders are all out there, ready to deliver the magical gift/meal for you!
5. Home spa
If you haven’t been able to go to a spa because of the MCO, you can try to make your own spa at home. Although it won’t be as relaxing as going to a ‘real’ spa, having your mum beside you and spending some quality time together for some much-needed pampering on Mother’s Day would be a treat for the both of you!
You can get sheet masks from any drug store and if you have a bathtub at home, that’s even better! Buy some bath bombs, scented candles, and massage oil and you’re good to go.
6. Send a heartwarming card or e-card
What’s a celebration without cards and speeches? We might be too busy with our every day lives to express love towards our mothers daily but why not make this Mother’s Day a special one by writing her a long speech? This is one of the ways you can express your appreciation to your mom without having to go outside!
If you don’t have time to go out and buy cards, you can always find Mother’s Day e-card templates online and you can get creative with them. Trust us, your mom will appreciate it because every effort matters.
Which of these will you be doing with your mum this Mother’s Day?
