Most of us are hyped over the very anticipated movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The movie isn’t the only one racking in sales. Branded toys, merchandise, video game also saw their sales go up. But that wasn’t the only thing that went up.
It was reported that Star Wars parody porn had a drastic increase in sales by 500%.
Adult entertainment online retailer GameLink says “Star Wars XXX” has had a five-fold increase in DVD sales since the beginning of September — although it won’t reveal exactly how many copies have been sold.
The creators behind “Star Wars XXX,” filmed in 2012 and legally protected from copyright claims because of its status as a parody, claimed then that it had “the highest budget ever” for a porn movie, although they have yet to release the flick’s exact budget. Whatever its cost, it’s probably recouped more money than was actually put into it thanks in part to “The Force Awakens”.
“The spike in sales for the parody is a representative of a much larger trend of brand-specific merchandise for Star Wars, which shows the strong bond fans have with the movies,” said GameLink executive Jeff Dillon. “We began noticing a gradual increase in sales of the title at the beginning of November, but it wasn’t until the past two weeks that purchases of Star Wars XXX really skyrocketed.”
