A 38-year-old man was arrested after he slapped a 6-year-old boy at a mall’s indoor playground in Singapore.

Based on a report by LianHe ZaoBao, the incident took place at the Westgate shopping mall in Jurong East on December 22 (Sunday), at around 2:40pm.

The father of the 6-year-old boy shared how his wife and her friend had taken their son to the playground, where the boy argued with another young girl. His wife and her friend were chatting at a distance and did not notice the disagreement.

“According to my wife, when my son was building a castle, the girl knocked it down and my son kicked her. When the girl’s father, who was nearby, learned about this, he walked towards my son and slapped him across the face,” he said.

The man hit the kid and scolded the mum

The girl’s father later confronted the boy’s mother while using profanities. At that point, she did not know that her son had been slapped and apologised to the girl’s father.

However, the truth soon came out.

“An aunty who witnessed the incident later told my wife that he (the girl’s father) had beaten my son, so my wife went back to argue with him and then called the police,” the boy’s father explained.

He added that his son was so scared that he kept crying, and his face was left with red marks and swelling. The boy was then sent to a hospital for examinations.

“Luckily, my son was fine and was discharged from the hospital on the same day. We spent about SG$160 (RM526.66) to see the doctor,” he said.

The boy’s father went on to explain that, while conflicts between children are common, the girl’s father should have approached the parents to mediate and should not have hit the boy.

“He may think he didn’t hit the child too hard, but he is so much bigger than the child, it would cause great harm to the child. I usually only hit my son’s hands and feet when I punish him, never his face.”

Considering this case involves a child under the age of 14, the girl’s father may face a heavier sentence following his arrest for intentional harm.
