Grandmothers hold a special spot in our hearts. They bring a little sparkle to kids’ lives, making every moment magical. Their presence means the world to us, and the bond we share is simply unbreakable.
In a recent video that’s been making rounds online, TikTok user @heyyjaeee shows us just how important grandmothers are to us. She and her cousins are seen dressed up as their grandmother for Chinese New Year.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, @heyyjaeee shared that her parents and aunts were originally from Johor Bahru but later moved to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur for work.
Because of the distance, they only got together once a year during Chinese New Year at their grandparents’ place.
“Despite living apart and meeting only once a year, digitalisation has certainly helped us stay in touch.”
She then shared how the idea of dressing up started when they were discussing which BBQ ingredients to bring over. They thought it would be fun to do something different this time and dress up for photos.
They even created a poll on WhatsApp to decide on the outfits, with options including Barbie, 70s, Disney princess, and Granny clothing themes. Interestingly, the granny theme was the top choice based on the poll.
“So we went ahead and placed orders to ensure they would arrive in time for CNY. To make it more realistic, we decided to get wigs to go along with them.”
@heyyjaeee and her cousins were worried about how the elders would react to their attire, fearing they might be offended.
However, everyone in the family found the idea so amusing that they couldn’t stop laughing, especially their grandmother. She added,
“One of our cousins also ‘stole’ our granny’s top. The first thing she pointed out was, ‘This outfit looks familiar,’ and my aunt was like, ‘This was from your closet…'”
She later revealed that because of their little stunt, they ended up receiving extra red packets for photo-taking and video sessions, jokingly stating that it would help them with their ‘retirement’.
