With Malaysia being such a melting pot of cultures and races, it is not rare to see other races get involved in the celebration of the festivities of others.
Recently, with it being the Thaipusam festival, plenty of Malaysians flocked to Batu Caves. With Thaipusam being a Hindu festival, we’d often assume that most of the festival goers are of Indian descent. However, we were surprised to find out that there are also groups of Chinese Hindus attending the festivities!
Pictures of Chinese Hindus have since gone viral on Twitter. Although it is reported that there are approximately 15,000 Chinese Hindus in Malaysia, it seems that most of us have not even met one or heard of such groups in the first place.
“How have I never known this?”
Netizens took to Twitter to express their surprise after seeing various pictures of the group.
“How have I never seen or heard about this.”
“Never knew, indeed Malaysia is a country of culture,” commented a user.
Another user commented, “We should really get out of the mindset that a particular race is equivalent to a specific religion. This is such an awesome tweet, breaking the boundaries of race and religion.”
“Even though I have lived in Malaysia for 30 years, I’ve just found this out. This is the beauty of Malaysia. You are free to practice your religion and beliefs,” said a user.
