A Malaysian student recently got the shock of her life when she failed to get a place in any course in public universities despite her above average results in STPM.
In an interview with Sinchew, the student named Mok Shu Peng from SMK Alor Akar said she went through the same process of sitting for STPM and MUET like her classmates, and that she was happy to have gotten a CGPA of 3.42 when the results were disclosed.
The 20-year-old student was fairly confident that she could get the course of her interest but when the Student Admission Unit (UPU) released the results on 31 July, she was stunned. Out of the 12 choices, she failed to get any one of them despite her good results.
Mok, who aspires to study architecture, broke down in tears after learning that she didn’t get into any of the universities.
“I went back to school to look for my teachers and appealed online. However, I was redirected to a different page than my friends. There were no options for me to choose from, that was when I knew something was wrong.”
“The numbers ’06’ (zero six) in the middle representing the states were inserted as ‘O6’ (“O” six). As a result, there is no record of my MUET result in the database,” Mok said.
Due to the human error, she was denied the chance of studying at public universities, and she couldn’t accept that. Mok then burst into tears again after learning the harsh truth.
It was understood that the staff had helped her to rectify the error but when she appealed online again, she was offered courses that she either wasn’t interested in or were unpopular.
Refusing to give up, she had gone to PKR Indera Mahkota service centre and appealed for Termerloh MP Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah’s help in this matter.
We wish her all the best for the appeal and hopefully, she can get to study architecture. So guys, remember to check your IC numbers the next time you received any official documents!
