A teacher and three pupils sustained injuries when the bus they were riding in, en route from a chocolate factory to the G2G Animal Garden at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) crashed into a tree on the UPM campus.

Dashcam footage of the incident went viral after one of the parents accompanying the trip captured the crash on their car’s dashcam.

In the footage, the bus can be seen following the road before suddenly veering off and crashing into a tree.

Panicked, one of the pupils’ mothers cried out and rushed to the scene.

Serdang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Farid Ahmad, stated that the driver was sleep-deprived and may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

“Investigations revealed that the driver was sleep-deprived and is believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel while driving along the route. Preliminary screening found that he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”

The driver has been remanded for two days. Investigations are ongoing under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
