Following the outbreak of Covid-19, many families have been struggling to make ends meet due to CMCO and losing their jobs. In response, Selangor is the first state to begin issuing temporary licences to unlicensed traders starting last August.
Speaking with SelangorKini, Selangor State Executive Councillor Ng Sze Han explained that these temporary licences will be available until December next year.
“Currently, the local authority (PBT) is actively identifying suitable and safe sites to house more traders. This action is earlier than the implementation of the free trade zone around Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. The State Government welcomes other states to follow in this footsteps for the benefit of the hawkers, ” he said.
He also explained that licence holders will be exempted from paying the licence fees for the next six years, including next year, in order to accommodate those who cannot afford it.
Earlier in the year, Selangor also launched an initiative to provide hawkers a RM500 special incentive to help them during this pandemic.
