With 1 September approaching, many parents are worried about the safety of their children and whether they need to send them to school. On one hand, these students need to get their education. However, they might risk contracting Covid-19.
At 7.40pm on 15 August, the Minister of Education Dr Radzi Jidin took to Facebook to speak on the reopening of the schools in a video. He has announced that the reopening of schools that was slated for 1 September has since been delayed to 3 October.
He elaborated and said that the reopening will be in stages starting with those students who need to sit for examinations. Further details in accordance with the National Recovery Plan (NRP) will be announced in the near future. However, he has said that according to the current SOPs set by the National Security Council, schools that are located in Phase 1 states will NOT be opened for face-to-face learning.
In the video, he reiterated time and time again that the ministry’s main concern has always been the safety of the children and so, they have taken their time to analyse the volatile Covid-19 situation.
It is fortunate that the reopening date has been pushed back as vaccination for teens are only just starting to open ip. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments.
