A school van carrying 22 students was involved in an accident with a cement trailer at the Bandar Dato Onn exit, southbound on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) in Johor on Monday (July 7).
According to a report by Sinar Harian, the Tebrau Fire and Rescue Station Operations Commander, Senior Fire Officer (PBK) II Muhamad Azizi Zakaria, shared that officers from the Kempas Fire Station were rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call.

“Upon arrival at the location, it was discovered that there had been an accident involving a school van and a cement trailer. There were 22 victims, consisting of school students, in the van. The school van driver was trapped in their seat while 3 students sustained injuries,” he said.
Thankfully, the trapped victim was successfully removed using special equipment before being handed over to an ambulance along with an injured boy.

“Meanwhile, 2 girls, who were also injured, were sent (for treatment) using the Emergency Medical Rescue Service. All those who were injured were sent to the Sultan Ismail Hospital for treatment,” he added.
How did the accident happen?

The Johor Bahru Utara District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh, explained that his department received information in regards to this incident from the Highway Investigation Unit of the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT).
“Investigations found that the accident occurred at about 2pm, involving a school van at the Dato Onn exit heading north of Johor, before it hit the back of a trailer that had stopped at the lane due to engine problems,”
“This case is being investigated under Regulation 10 of the Road Traffic Regulations 1959,” he added.
