Thank you!
A school clerk volunteered to deliver home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) material to students despite heavy rain and knee-high floods in Kampung Pituru, Sabah.
This dedicated person is 23-year-old Shafiq Shazwan Juhen, a school clerk at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Pekan II Kota Belud. The home-based learning materials had to be delivered due to the poor internet connections of more than 20 students at their homes.
“It is hard for students to participate in the PdPR session online because the village has a slow internet connection, especially when it’s raining. Some students will sit for SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia), so I do not want them to be left out,” he told BERNAMA.
On 17 December last year, the teachers wanted to pass the learning materials to the students in Kampung Pituru and he volunteered to do it.
“To prevent the materials from getting wet, I wrapped it in plastic. Cars couldn’t get through, I had no choice but to wade through the floodwaters,” he said.
Floods had cut off the access to the village as there is only one main road linking it to the Kota Belud town, thus he had to walk through the knee-deep floodwaters to get the materials delivered.
Jainol Sair, the principal of SMK Pekan II Kota Belud said the delivery of PdPR materials was an offline approach to help students who did not have internet access at home to continue learning. The school would deliver the materials with the help of school guards and the Parent-Teacher Association.
Thank you Shafiq Shazwan Juhen for your dedication! Amidst the pandemic where many are forced to undergo learning at home, many problems can be faced, including poor internet connection, inadequate learning equipment and more. Therefore, please be grateful and be sure to lend a helping hand to those who are in need whenever possible!
Stay home and stay safe!
